Dining Room Tour

It’s finally DONE! I had been trying to figure out what to do with my dining room for the longest time. I desperately wanted it done but the timing didn’t seem right with just having a baby. Then, our Christmas plans turned into the whole family coming to my house and that was just the motivation I needed to knock it out. I wanted a space that everyone could comfortably have a meal in!

I tried to make the project as easy as possible since I was in a time crunch and taking care of Maverick. The existing dining room had chair rail molding around the whole thing so I knew I needed to try and work with that rather than removing it and creating a whole new mess. That’s when my sister-in-law came over and suggested beadboard wall paneling. Which, by the way still ended up being a lot of work but so worth it!

The first thing I did was choose the paint color, which looking back was kind of risky. I knew I wanted it to be a warm and inviting gray tone to contrast my white walls in the entryway, but at that point had no idea what my intentions were for the rest of the space.

It was hard to figure out what to do next because I was so distracted by the dreaded boob light fixture. That’s when I found this beautiful chandelier on Wayfair!

My dining room was basically empty for awhile with nothing except the chandelier, uninstalled wall paneling, and painting supplies. Installing the beadboard was difficult because I didn’t have the right tools, time, or knowledge. Luckily Nick and his brother helped me through it and a month and a half after starting it, we finished it! During that time I spent countless hours on the internet searching for the right dining room set. I even had one delivered and sent back. Ultimately I decided on this gorgeous wood table with modern chairs from World Market and I couldn’t love it more!

Now that I had the bones of the room completed, I was able to pick out accent pieces and decorations. I found the bronze mirror for $57 at an antique shop. I love that it’s so unique and truly is a statement piece, which is why I made it the focus of the wall and didn’t hang anything else up.

I ordered the rug on Wayfair, which I was a little nervous about because I wasn’t certain it would go with everything. Once it came it really was the perfect way to tie the whole room together!

After everything was together and in place, I went to Hobby Lobby where I spent a good hour and a half deciding on place settings *yikes*. And now that Christmas is over it’s probably about time I go back and find some new things for the upcoming season (yes, I’m trying to justify my Hobby Lobby addiction).

With our family growing I can not wait to create more meals and memories in our beautiful dining room!

  1. Kelsey,
I think you did an amazing job. I love everything about it, the color looks fabulous with the wainscoting to keep it bright. Good choice on table and chairs, you definitely pulled it all together for the modern look. Way to go new MOM!
Give Nicholas and Maverick a kiss from Mrs. Carolyn.
